

Dr. Szczukowski was born on June 2, 1922 in Alpena, Michigan to Julius and Clara Szczukowski. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and was a WWII and Korean War veteran retiring as a Major with the US Air Force Reserve. He married Lillian J. Zupancic on December 13, 1951at Ancon Chapel in the Panama Canal Zone.
He attended the University of Detroit, University of North Dakota, and North Dakota Agriculture College. He earned his medical degree from the University of St. Louis School of Medicine. He was the former Chief of Radiology at Gorgas Hospital and a physician at Memorial Hospital where he retired as Chief of Radiology. He was past president of the Tennessee Radiological Society, a counselor at the American College of Radiology and co-founder of the Dixie Caucus of the American College of Radiology. Dr. Szczukowski was honored as a Fellow of the American College of Radiology. After practicing medicine in the military, he practiced in New Mexico and Kentucky, before moving to Tennessee.
He enjoyed his lunch groups on Wednesdays and Saturdays and family gatherings. His hobbies included reading, gardening, travel, fishing and hunting.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Lillian J. Szczukowski, who he enjoyed spending time with; son, Dr. Myron Szczukowski, Jr. and his wife Allison of Easton, MD and their children, Max, Alex and Zach; daughter, Dr. Lori Szczukowski and husband Dr. Lee Newman of Denver, CO and their children, Kira and Julia; daughter, Dr. Lisa Szczukowski and husband, Dan Rosen of Signal Mountain, TN and their children Philip, Jenny and Andy; and brother, James Szczukowski of Alpena, MI.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 AM on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the funeral home, followed by funeral service at 11:30 AM at OLPH Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Notre Dame High School (2701 Vermont Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404-1797) or to Ladies of Charity (2821 Rossville Blvd., Chattanooga TN 37407)
Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
