

Nancy Johnson Strickland of East Ridge, TN, age 86, was received by her Lord Jesus Christ into her heavenly home Monday, April 11, 2011. Born March 11, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Carol H. and Minnie “Minno” Harrington Johnson. A 1943 graduate of Central High School in Fountain City, TN, she attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL. A member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, she served in the choir for over 50 years. Nancy was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, faithfully serving her Lord and others.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Charles Harmon Strickland, Sr.; one daughter: Carol Strickland of East Ridge; three sons: Charles Harmon “Chuck” Strickland, Jr., (Debbie) of Bridgeport, AL; Dr. Robert David Strickland of Miami, FL; Donald Lee Strickland (Jenny) of Greer, SC; four grandchildren: Keith Maynard (April); Kathy Maynard Hartsfield (Greg); Nathanael and Thomas Strickland; four great-grandchildren: Katie, Abbie, and Kimmie Maynard, and Violet Hartsfield; a brother Bob Johnson (Marilyn); and a brother-in-law Bunyan Strickland (Jane); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Thursday at Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel, 404 South Moore Road. The celebration of Nancy’s life will be Friday at 1 PM at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews; honorary pallbearers will be the Fellowship Class of Jones Memorial. The grave side service will be at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga.

The family thanks Nancy’s many friends who prayed and performed deeds of kindness during her illness, as well as her doctors, nurses, and healthcare providers. Finally, the family gives thanks to the Lord Jesus for the gift of Nancy’s life and for comforting them during their sorrow.
