Peggy Ayers Steele, 80, a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga Area passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024. She was born December 9, 1943 in Whitwell, Tennessee to the late Mildred Condra and Leonard Austin Ayers.
She was a graduate of Lakeview High School class of 1959. Peggy loved public service, her fondest memories being a local Girl Scout Leader where her caring nature, wit and wisdom influenced dozens of young women. She was kind, loving and very giving. Peggy made friends easily and her energetic personality was contagious. Her work with PTA made the school system better for all children. She had served on the East Ridge Library Board and was very influential in local government. Peggy was a collector of many things and loved to travel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry E. Steele; three sisters, Judy Ayers Duncan, Donna Ayers Ray and Carol Ayers Lewis and a granddaughter, Sarah Ashley Voss.
Survivors include her children, Lauren Steele Voss, Susan Steele Warren and Len Steele; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren brother, William Roger Ayers and sister, Nancy Ayers Frazier.
A celebration of life service will be held at 6 PM Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Crossroads Baptist Church, 9122 Ooltewah-Georgetown Road in Ooltewah with the Rev. Mike Steele officiating.
Interment will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
