Ray Michael Morrison, 94, of Chattanooga, died on Friday, August 14, 2020 in a local facility. Mr. Morrison was born in Whitwell, TN to Ernest and Rae Morrison and was raised in Chattanooga. He graduated in 1944 from Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga, after which he immediately joined the United States Army. Ray served in the European theatre during World War II in Company A 104th Inf. Regt 26th Div. during which he was in the Battle of the Bulge. After his service to our country, Mr. Morrison received his BS degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Chattanooga in 1955 only to return to the University of Chattanooga for further studies in Accounting in 1958 where he then earned an Accounting Certificate in 1964. He spent many years as a state accounting auditor in Colorado and was quite enthusiastic and passionate about his accounting work throughout his career. He was a charter member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Mr. Morrison was also a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Serra Club, American Legion, VFW, Half Century Club and a host of other civic organizations. Mr. Morrison served many years as a volunteer American Legion Chaplain assisting with veteran funerals at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga. He had a lifelong love of music, singing and playing the harmonica. He was known to carry his harmonica wherever he went and never hesitated to share a tune or two with anyone in his company be it family, friend or stranger. However, perhaps his greatest passion was for his Catholic faith and the pursuit to live in accordance with God’s will for his life, particularly as he journeyed into and through his golden years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother John Patrick, his infant brother Kiely, his baby sister Mary Catherine Gang, and his twin brother, James Roy Morrison.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at the East Ridge Retirement Center on Mack Smith Rd. where Mr. Morrison resided for many years. He enjoyed living there and made many friends along the way. The staff showed a special interest in Mr. Morrison over the years, and we thank them for the attention and care he received from them.
