He was born October 31, 1922 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Naomi & Raymond Rowe, Sr.
He was a 1942 graduate of Chattanooga High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Georgia Tech.
Mr. Rowe served during World War II in the United States Air Force. He retired from active service as a First Lieutenant and went on to retire from the Air Force Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel. During his service to our nation, he was a B-17 Bomber Pilot with the 731st Bomb Squadron, and 452nd Bomb Group. He flew 17 combat missions in the European Theater and was shot down performing duty and held prisoner by the enemy.
He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Chattanooga Chapter of Retired Military Officers, and the X-POW Chapter.
Mr. Rowe was an avid trout fisherman and hunter and was a member of Trout Unlimited.
He was an active member of First Christian Church where he had formerly served as the Hope Class Sunday School teacher and currently attended the Kemp Class.
As well as being retired from the United States Air Force, he also retired from 3M and Chattem after 20 years of service with each.
His wife, Anne Yates Rowe, sister, Barbara Bachman, brother-in-law, Art Bachman, Sr., and special friend Richard Skipper preceded him in death.
Survivors include his current wife of 6 years, Jessie Rowe; daughter, Lynda (Alex) Broyles of Ringgold, GA; step-daughters Gina Sutton and Debbie Hartline both of Flintstone, GA; granddaughter, Mary Jean Broyles of Atlanta, GA; great-grandson Alex Harb of Ringgold, GA; step-grandson, Chris Hartline of Flintstone, GA; and two nephews, Lt. Col. Art Bachman, Jr. of Richmond, VA, and Lt. Col. Mike Bachman of Knoxville, TN.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 31, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at the East Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at First Christina Church, 650 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37403. Rev. Jonathan Hyde and Rev. Phil Summerlin will officiate.
Interment with military honors will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
