Rebecca Ann Sanford

Rebecca Ann McDougald Sanford left our earthly world May 29, 2012. She passed at home in Algood, Tennessee in the loving care of family members. Rebecca was born March 26, 1926 in Gainesville, Florida. Her parents were the late William (Sam) and Annie Laurie McLean McDougald.

She attended school in Williston, Florida, then Deland, Florida where she met her husband of sixty-eight years, Robert Sanford. Her interests included family, reading, and genealogy. She was an avid gardener and instilled in many of us the wonders of nature and this world in which we travel. She loved to share stories about her life and her ancestors. She was a true southern belle and was always thinking of others. She never passed a stranger on the street without a smile and a warm greeting.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Sanford, Sr., and four children: Sharon Samon (Jerry); Susan Lee; Joan Champaign; Robert Sanford Jr.; six grandchildren: Kim Sweat; Mark Shiffman; Cindy Bilbrey; Jerry Samon; Jon Hall, Kyle Champaign; seven great grandchildren: Rachel Sweat Duvall; Kristi Sweat Allen; Ashley Sweat; Bobby Bilbrey; Bruno Shiffman; Elio Shiffman; Matthew Samon; Anna Kaye Samon; Mary Grace Winscott; Jack Winscott; Benjamin Winscott, and six great great grandchildren.

A celebration of Rebecca’s life, and our life with her, will be held at Algood Community Center on Saturday, June 9, from 2 to 4:30. Graveside service will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Gainesville Florida on Saturday, June 23, at 11:00 am.
