He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Anne, son, Adam and his daughter, Heather, his brother, Wilson, Memphis, TN., his extended family and many dear friends.
Rick was born in Memphis, TN., and attended Memphis University School where he was a staff photographer and a member of the track and field team. Rick graduated from Ole Miss where he studied business. His hobbies included photography, fishing, and engaging in whatever activity was of interest to members of his family, because his delight was in being with his family, both individually and all together. Rick selflessly, generously, and joyfully gave of himself in both big and small ways to his family, and he frequently remarked on the top importance of his family. He knew that God loved him dearly and unconditionally, and he extended himself out of that reality. He often did things behind the scenes without being asked, a gentle yet firm and loving man full of strength of character, yet humility of compassion. He listened well, he shared openly of his strengths and shortcomings, and he made you feel like your heart was safe with him. In these ways and many more, he reflected the mercy and grace of Christ to his family and friends and others who had contact with him. He will be truly missed, and we all look forward to seeing him again one day. We are renewed with peace and hope from knowing that he is fully alive and well and celebrating his Savior. As Scripture says, for Christians, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. We are so thankful for Jesus, though Rick did not deserve it on his own merit, saving Rick and taking him home through God’s outpouring of love on the Cross. This substitution is open for all, including those who are mourning. Rick is more alive than he has ever been, happy with Jesus. He invites you to join him!
Oh, to experience the extreme, utter exuberance that he is now! Oh, to be with Jesus!!
A Celebration of Rick’s Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Monday October 30, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 until service time. Interment will follow the service at Forest Hills Cemetery.
