

Bob was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He graduated from Notre Dame High School and got his bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Social Work from the University of Chattanooga. He married his high school sweetheart and over the next 63 years they raised two children and were active members of their community. He was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather of six and great-grandfather of four. Bob worked at Erlanger Medical Center for 30 years, the last 25 as VP of Risk Management.
Bob was a beloved, funny, loyal and selfless man. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and neighbors. He was passionate about golf, making clubs for those closest to him, fishing and boating.
He is survived by his wife and lifelong love, Cynthia Thomas of Chattanooga, his son, Robert Charles Thomas, Jr. of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, his daughter Patricia Stormark of Marietta, Georgia, and his cherished grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Mary Helen Thomas and his brother William "Bill" Thomas.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Monday, August 17, 2026 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road. A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, August 18 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Mike Nolan officiating. He will be laid to rest in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
