Syd Allen Darwin Jr.

Syd Allen Darwin, Jr., 77, passed away January 10, 2019 at an area hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. Syd was veteran of the United States Navy and attended the Naval Academy in Annapolis. He was of the Methodist faith. Syd was a member of numerous clubs, most notably the Chattanooga Rifle Club and the Chattanooga Coin Club. He was employed with Vincent Printing Company for many years until his retirement. Syd was preceded in death by his son, Robert Allen Darwin, and his parents, Syd Allen Darwin, Sr., and Martha Little Darwin. Left behind to cherish Syd’s memory are his brother, Richard B. Darwin, and his wife, Phyllis, of East Ridge, sister, Ann Schneider and her husband, William, of Barnhardt, MO., nephews, Rick Darwin, and his wife, Celina, Scott Darwin, both of Chattanooga, Philip Darwin and his wife Leanne, Dallas, GA., Michael Schneider, and niece, Dr. Stephanie Schneider, both of St. Louis, MO., and a special friend, Lorraine Waller, East Ridge. A Celebration of Syd’s Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Sunday January 13, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplain Jeremy Lambert officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 3 to 6 p.m. He will be laid to rest with his son in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Syd’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 6221 Shallowford Rd, Chattanooga, TN 37421. Syd - it has been 60 years since we graduated from Kentucky Military Institute. I will miss your phone calls and the stories we shared. Rest in Peace Old Friend.

I have never met a man who has had more fight in him. In just a few short years, he has truly taught my kids about coins, rocks, and loved our family like his own. He will be very missed. Rest in peace Syd.
