

He was preceded in death by his parents Raulston and Lonnie (Norton) Ward, his sister Betty Ward Dougherty, and brother-in-law Carl Dougherty.
He is survived by his nephew John Ward Dougherty, and two cousins, Jane Bohanan and Steve Morris.
Mr. Ward was a graduate of Central High School in Chattanooga and graduated from Duke University as part of the US Navy’s V12 program. After his service in the Navy, Mr. Ward returned to Chattanooga and began a life-long career as a metallurgical engineer at Combustion Engineering’s met lab, continuing there as the name changed to ABB Combustion Engineering and then finally to the currently named Alstom Materials Technology Center. Mr. Ward was part of a team that developed P91 steel, which is used in power plants worldwide to produce electricity efficiently and affordably. Ted truly loved the work he shared with his colleagues, all of whom will miss him deeply.
Visitation will be at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home Monday, March 28 from 7:00 until 9:00pm. Plans for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
