

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Maude Terry; and loving husband Charles H. Byrd.
She is survived by her sons, Lynn (Susan) Byrd , Ken (Amy) Byrd, granddaughter Shannon Byrd Bitler.
Mrs. Byrd was a long-time member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church where she had been a part of the United Methodist Women, the Sanctuary Choir, was a member of and teacher for the Adult Bible Class, and had spent many years as a youth counselor.
A graduate of Central High School, Thelma attended McKenzie College where she later taught with her husband. After retiring following years of service as a bookkeeper at Valley Optical Supply, she worked at New Life Homes for Boys, spreading Christ's message of love and redemption.
Thelma was a gentle, sweet lady who believed that love could fix anything and never gave up on anyone. She will be missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm Tuesday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 S. Moore Road. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Dial and the Rev. Mark Womack officiating. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jones Memorial United Methodist Church 4131 Ringgold Road East Ridge, TN 37412.
