Mr. Sims was born in Hamilton County and was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church and belonged to the Friendship Sunday School Class. He was a graduate of Chattanooga City High School Class of 1945 serving as Class President. He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving in the Europe 88th Infantry Division and the Korean War with Combat Engineers.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joy Sims; children, Richard Sims, William Sims, Rebecca Lackey and Robert Sims; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 and Noon to 1 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 1 PM on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at the funeral home with Dr. Ronnie Mitchell officiating.
Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.
