Tobey Lee Hulgan

Tobey Jones Hulgan, 100 years old, of the Hickory Valley Retirement Community in Chattanooga, previously of Lookout Valley, entered the presence of Her Savior and Loving God on Friday, October 24, 2025.

Tobey was born April 18, 1925 in Fyffe, Alabama. She lived in Henegar, Alabama for 15 years and Chattanooga for 80 years. She graduated from Ider, Alabama High School in 1943, She attended the Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing as a US Army Cadet Nurse Corps Student during WWII. She worked in local doctors offices for 50 years.

Tobey was an active member of the Wauhatchie United Methodist Church for 60 years. Most recently she was a member of the Lookout Valley Presbyterian Church. She firmly believed in the power of prayer, and faithfully prayed for family, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances, all the days of her life.

Tobey was preceded in death by husband of 66 years, Luther D. Hulgan, son Byron D. Hulgan, parents, James Oliver Jones, and Eula Allen Jones of Henegar, Alabama, brothers, Lester, Vester, Boyd, and Barney (B.C.) Jones, sister, Winefred Jones Blevins, three nephews, and three nieces. She is survived by son, Alan D. Hulgan (Martha), daughter-in-law, Sherry McBryar Hulgan, four grandchildren, James Hulgan (Gretchen), Brent Hulgan (Amy), Kristin Hulgan, and Rebecca Hulgan Banus (Todd), four great grandchildren, Harrison Jones Hulgan, Laurel Anne Banus, Arden Grace Banus, and Sarah Greene Hulgan, six nieces, and three nephews.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday October 28th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, October 29th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 29th at 12:30p.m. with Tom Kilgore officiating. Burial will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Community Helping Hand Fund of Wauhatchie United Methodist Church, or the Building Fund Of Lookout Valley Presbyterian Church
