Virginia was dearly loved by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and caregivers alike treasured her wisdom, forthrightness, and wonderful sense of humor. She was never afraid to share her opinion. Ever. And we are all better for it.
She was a wonderful friend who could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, on just about anything. Staying connected with family and friends was one of her greatest joys. She had a genuine interest in others and a gift for making conversation.
Virginia had a special love for hummingbirds, which could be found throughout her home in all shapes and sizes. In her younger years, she was an accomplished golfer and bowler. She was also an avid reader and a devoted Atlanta Braves fan.
Virginia attended the University of Tampa, where she met the love of her life, Milt. They shared 69 years of marriage. During her working years, she served as a business office associate at Mary Black Hospital and Spartanburg Regional in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Milt Sweatman.
Of all her accomplishments, Virginia was most proud of her family, whom she often described as her greatest achievement. She is survived by her three sons, Roderick Sweatman, Mark Sweatman (Ceil), and Robert Sweatman (Jennifer); eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her more joy than sharing stories about her family with anyone willing to listen.
Virginia leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, cherished memories, and more than a few strongly held opinions. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family will hold a private burial-at-sea service at a later date..
