

Bill Byrd, 94, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away Friday, January 21, 2011 after a short illness. A native of Bruceton, TN, he moved to Chattanooga at an early age and was retired from the Krystal Company as the Chattanooga City Manager. He was a Veteran of W.W. II, serving in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Red Bank Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Half Century Club and has been a resident of the Hickory Valley Retirement Community for the past five years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, LaVada. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Elizabeth Berry, Maryville, TN; two sons, William Edward Byrd and Robert Reed Byrd both of Chattanooga; five grandchildren, Marie Howard and Beverly Walden of Chattanooga, Bryan Byrd, Dalton, GA, Mike Berry and Tony Berry both of Maryville, TN; and special friends, Brenda Russell, Columbia, SC and Sandy Guffey, Chattanooga as well as all the staff and residents of Hickory Valley Retirement Community. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Dean officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 404 S. Moore Road.
