William G. “Bill” Hales, 83, of Chattanooga passed away Sunday, November 8, 2009 at his home. He was a charter member of New Hope Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hales had worked at the Chattanooga Farmers Market as a banana processor. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy from 1942 – 1946 in the Pacific Theatre. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean A. Hales; parents, Fred and Mae Smith Hales and a brother Edward Hales.Survivors include two sons, Roger (Ady) Hales and Randy Hales; three daughters, Debbi (Lee) Cannon, Pam England and Lisa (Gill) Brewster; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; close family friends, Dan and Fay Edwards and family.Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith W. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Wednesday and from 12:30-1:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Presbyterian Church 7301 Shallowford Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421 or to your favorite charity.
