He was born October 11, 1923, in Harbor Grace, Newfoundland. His family moved to New York shortly after his birth and he was raised in Brooklyn.
He is survived by his wife Jeanette. They met and married while he was stationed at Fort Oglethorpe and were together for 68 years.
He is also survived by three sons: Bill (Kathy) of Chattanooga; Rick (Pam) of Sevierville, TN and David (Brenda) of Louisville, KY. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He entered the army at the start of World War Two and remained in the service until 1954. He was stationed at various posts in the United States and spent several years in Germany immediately prior to leaving the army. Among the decorations he received while in service are the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. When he left the service, he and Jeanette moved to her home town of Chattanooga.
He worked in the building supply trade and, in his younger days, he was an avid fisherman. For the last few years his passions have included playing cards and bingo.
He and Jeanette have been active members of Grace Episcopal Church since the 1950’s.
The family will receive friends at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday May 5th.
Funeral service will be at 12:30 PM on Tuesday May 6th at Grace Episcopal Church. Burial will be at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
