

Mr. Smith was born February 25, 1928 in Dublin, VA the son of the late William Perry and Maxine Smith and was also preceded in death by a brother Charles Robert Smith. He was a member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church the Open Door Sunday school class, a WWII army veteran, a graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Smith worked for Combustion Engineering for 10 years in the Philippines, India, Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Chattanooga. In 1961 he founded the Perry Smith Company in Chattanooga and co-founded Steam and Control Systems. He was a Professional Engineer, a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Navy League, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and Shriners Flying Fez.
Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years Carol Fischer Smith, son Perry Smith III and wife Karen, daughter Stacey Smith, stepdaughter Cindy Royal, stepson Ben Fischer and wife Jessica, and stepdaughter Laura Bowling and husband Jason, grandchildren Shelby Smith, Carlie Royal, Taylor and Caroline Bowling, Anastasia, Peter and Jessica Grace Fischer.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 8, 2010 at 12:00 pm at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bill Dudley officiating. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church from 10 until the funeral hour.
