Born in Scranton, PA; on July 29, 1924, he was the son to the late Richard and Clotilda Welsch Moyles and graduated from St. Paul’s Roman Catholic High School, Scranton. Francis served his country in the Army of the United States during WWII, where he was a pilot and flew the following aircrafts B-17, AT-11 and C-45. Francis had command of aircraft and crew, ascertained prior to mission that aircraft had been thoroughly inspected. Maintained flight records and reported observations made during missions and had thorough knowledge of general and local flying regulations and meteorology. Francis flew two combat missions and received 2 Bronze Stairs and an ETO Ribbon, an American Theater Ribbon and a World War II Victory Medal. Following his honorable discharge Francis obtained a position in banking first working in the Lancaster area and relocated to Stroudsburg when he acquired the position of Bank Manager of First Federal Savings and Loan, in Stroudsburg and retired as Bank Manager of the Security Bank and Trust, in East Stroudsburg; in 1986.
Francis was a member of St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church, Stroudsburg; a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge 319, East Stroudsburg, an avid golfer and a resident of Monroe County since 1953.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was his loving wife Elizabeth Munley Moyles, who passed away on September 3, 2002.
Surviving is his son, Attorney James R. Moyles of Camp Hill, PA; and daughter Christine Miller of Martinsburg; WV, grandchildren Donna L. Moyles of Pittsburgh; Rachael Farris and her husband Michael of Martinsburg, WV; and Andrea Repp of Martinsburg, WV; great grandchildren Natalie Farris, Gabriel Repp and Celia Persephone, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday January 22, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. in St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church, West Main Street, Stroudsburg; with Rev. Fr. Thomas McLaughlin, Pastor, celebrant. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Oram Street, Scranton.
