OBITUARY

Hubert P. McHugh Jr.

January 19, 1933February 20, 2021

Hubert P. McHugh Jr, 88, of Stroudsburg, PA passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at home. He was the husband of Clara M. (Tarnacki) McHugh with whom he shared 68 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his 8 children: Hubert McHugh III and his wife, Linda; Linda Garrison and her husband, John; Michael McHugh and his wife, Patricia; Virginia Knopf and her husband, Stephen; Joseph McHugh and his wife, Rose; Marie Strunk and her husband, Joseph; Barry McHugh and his wife, Kathy; and Claire Marks and her husband, Lynn (yes- boy, girl, boy, girl, etc). In addition, he is survived by 27 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, with 2 on the way. Preceded in death by grandsons Shaun Patrick McHugh and Matthew Spence Marks. Hubert kept active. At 88 years old, he was still working at Campart Co. Inc, the machine parts business he founded in 1974. In between working and rebuilding antique cars, he was creative with his hands, often making handmade gifts for his family and friends on special occasions. With wife Clara being an avid Salt & Pepper Shaker collector (11,000 pairs), Hubert kept busy building shelves and cabinets to display them on almost every wall in the house. Hubert was a family man, and for years, he and Clara hosted major holiday gatherings at their house for the immediate family, growing to over 50 attending at once. He loved traveling the country (by car) with Clara and his mother, Eva, always visiting National Parks and family along the way. Many grandchildren accompanied Hubert and Clara in their RV camper when the S & P shaker yearly convention came around, always in a different part of the country. Hubert was loved by all due to his intelligence, charisma, story and joke telling, and his generosity. He will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church at 720 Delaware Ave, Portland, PA 18351. The viewing (walk by only) will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2021 from 8:45-9:30 AM at Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home in East Stroudsburg. Mass will follow from 10:00-11:00 AM at St. Matthew’s Church in East Stroudsburg for anyone who wishes to attend in person or virtually at www.stmatthewspa.org and click on youtube.

Hubert and Clara took care of us at our first convention in 2007, Kissimmee Florida. We will never forget this. We also had the opportunity to visit their home and see their wonderful collection. I loved the shaker stories Hubert told us all the time. Both pioneers of the salt and pepper club. For ever in our hearts! Respect for being such a wonderful example towards family values.
