
Born in Jersey City, NJ; on October 5, 1934, he was a son to the late Sheridan and Catherine (McGucken) Bennett. John attended Lincoln High School, Jersey City; and enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his county during the Korean War.
John was employed as a Truck driver for Yellow Freight Systems Inc., in Pine Brook NJ; retiring after 17 years of service. He was a member of the Teamsters Local # 641, Union, NJ and in during his retirement loved the game of golf and spending time at the beach.
Surviving are his daughters, Donna Pomponi and her husband John of Harrison, NJ; and Kelly Bowsher of West Lafayette, IN; son, John E. Bennett, Jr. and his wife Deborah, of Marshalls Creek; sisters, Catherine Aldrich and her husband Dean of Mansfield, TX; Jean Knobloch and her husband Arthur Parsippany, NJ; Dorothy Turner and her husband Frank of Aurora, OH; brother, Joseph Bennett of Vero Beach, FL; grandchildren, Anthony Pomponi of Harrison, NJ; Madelynn, Julia and Donovan Bennett of Marshalls Creek; and Owen Bowsher of Lafayette, IN; former wife, Bernice Bennett of Glenwood, NJ; nieces and nephews.
A Catholic prayer services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday April 20, 2013 at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg with Fr. Jeffrey J Walsh officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
A public visitation will be held on Saturday April 20, 2013 at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, from noon until the time of the service.
