
Born in Bayonne, NJ, on December 21, 1927, he was a son of the late Alice Barton. As a teenager Joseph enlisted in the United States Merchant Marines and served his county in WWII. He then enlisted in the United States Army and once again served his country during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge he acquired a position with Van Leer as a steel worker retiring from that position after 35 years.
Joseph attended St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church, East Stroudsburg, and enjoyed model airplanes, and going to the Casino.. He was an avid New York Giants, and New York Yankees fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Preceding him in death in addition to his mother, was his wife of 54 years the former Anna Donato who passed away on July 16, 2012 and a brother Thomas Rooth.
Surviving are his sons, Joseph J. Rooth and his wife Melody of Bethlehem, and Daniel Rooth and his wife Caryn of Lake Hopatcong, NJ; daughter, Linda McLinden and her husband Michael of East Stroudsburg; brother, James J. Rooth and his wife Sheila of south New Jersey; grandchildren Brittni Rooth, Jennifer D’Amico, Michael Rooth, David McLinden and Daniel Rooth; nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday April 1, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church; 200 Brodhead Ave., East Stroudsburg with Rev. Fr. Joseph Kutch as celebrant. Interment will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover, PA
