Boo was born to George and Gwendolyn Sauer, June 18, 1935, in Elizabeth, NJ. She grew up in Cranford NJ, a city she loved, graduating from Cranford High School; and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Finance from Penn State University. She joined the sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma and remained life-long friends with several sorority sisters. Boo married H. Wayne Huffman II Sept. 27th, 1980, and they shared their life together at their homes in Stroudsburg and Marblehead MA.
Boo leaves behind her three daughters: Valerie Stevenson Coppus and husband George, of Tucson, AZ, Marjorie Stevenson and husband, Steve Gentry, of Ridgway, CO and Katherine (Katie) Stevenson Vozeolas and Bruce Bartolini of Hampton, NH. Additionally, she is survived by four granddaughters: Gwen and Sara Vozeolas and Hunter and Emersyn Gentry; her sisters Margaret Haviland of Allendale NJ, and Virginia Davis of Gainesville, VA; and many nieces and nephews who loved Aunt Boo!
An acumen for numbers and finance landed Boo her first job out of college working for the Federal Reserve in Richmond VA. For a number of years, she managed the books for the food service at Camelback Ski Area. In 1974, a group of local attorneys recognized something in Boo and asked her to open Consumers Land Abstract, a title insurance company. As the story goes, Boo was concerned she didn’t know anything about land titles and insurance and remarked “I have never even been inside the courthouse!” Acting as manager for many years, she became known as an expert on land title issues in the greater Poconos area. With a passion for tax law, Boo often worked a few days a week in tax season at H&R Block, while still managing Consumers Land Abstract.
In addition to her business prowess, Boo could do anything! Whether it was making her daughters’ summer play outfits out of chicken feed sacks, refinishing the baby grand piano, knitting sweaters, or hanging wallpaper, she did it. With her husband Wayne, she worked tirelessly on their homes and many rental properties. She loved their beautiful Neola farm, Sisters Weekend at Beaver Lake, annual summer vacations to Popham Beach ME and long walks in Marblehead MA. Having been a ballerina in her youth, Boo returned to ballet in her 40’s, with her family attending her dance recitals!
All are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday April 24th at Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home at 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg PA from 4:00-6:00pm. There will be a private interment.
