
Born in East Stroudsburg; on May 22, 1926, he was the son to the late Leroy and Viola (Freeman) Gallagher. Raymond graduated from East Stroudsburg High School. He then joined the Navy during WWII in 1944 to 1946 and was stationed in California. After his honorable discharge from the Navy he obtained a position at Ronson Corporation, in Delaware Water Gap until they closed. Raymond then worked at East Stroudsburg University as a custodian from 1967 to 1988. He then obtained a position at Shawnee Golf Course; he enjoyed planting all the flowers and maintaining the upkeep of the gardens, in 1990 Raymond than retired from working.
Raymond was a member of the American Legion George N. Kemp Post 346, in East Stroudsburg, the National Wildlife Federation, AFSCME and local 2366. He enjoyed gardening, and the history of WWII. In the 1955 flood Raymond was amazed by how so many people came out to help others that they did not even know, he held that in his heart and deeply felt that one day he would be able to give back to people in a time of need, so in 1993 Raymond donated his time with the Red Cross as a volunteer, and traveled to the Midwest to help victims of a flood.
Surviving is a son, Raymond A. Gallagher Jr and his wife Darlene, of East Stroudsburg; two daughters, Cynthina L. Muffley and her husband Terry, of Geneva, New York; and Leslie K. Gallagher-Raser, of East Stroudsburg; four grandchildren, Brandon J. Gallagher, of Minisink Hills; Patrick C. Muffley, of Long Island, NY; Bess M. Tohey and her husband Matt, of Bethesda Maryland; and Amelia R. Raser, of East Stroudsburg.
Services will be held at a later date and private to the family.
