

He was born on July 29, 1931 to the late Arthur and Anna (Bauman) Parton, of East Stroudsburg.
Upon graduation from East Stroudsburg High School, Richard then Joined the Navy where he served for four years. He then decided to join some friends, and serve in the Marines. As a true Navy boy at heart, the Marines were just not where his heart was. After serving 6 years as a marine, he then signed up and served in the navy for the next 26 years. While serving in the United States Navy, Richard achieved many goals and earned many medals such as The Navy good conduct Medal, The China Service medal, and the national Defense service Medal. After retiring from the armed forces, he became a member of the VFW, American legion, The Acme Hose Fire Company, and the IBW Credit Union. He was also a Boy Scout leader for troop 81 for 14 years. He loved mentoring the men of future generations to come. Aside from his lifelong military career, Richard worked at JJ Banks, Archibald, East Stroudsburg Post office, and IBW Boiler Works. He was of the Methodist faith; he lived to serve God and his country. Richard was a noble, honorable, hardworking man who will be sincerely missed.
In addition to his parents, Richard had been predeceased by his two sons, Randy and Kevin Parton.
In addition to his wife Shirley, he is survived by his daughter: Cathy Gallagher and her husband Brian, of East Stroudsburg; his sons: Eric Parton Sr. of East Stroudsburg, and Robert Parton, of South Carolina; Grandchildren: Tara Parton and her fiancé Jeremy, of Keesville, NY; Jessica Prinz and her husband Matt, of Bristol, PA; Matthew Parton and his wife Kristina, of Stroudsburg, PA; Eric Parton Jr. and his wife Samantha of Cherry Valley, PA; and Danny Gallagher, of East Stroudsburg; His great grandchildren: Dawson, Ashley, and Alexis LaPlant, Alexandria and Victoria Prinz, Madison and Roslynn Parton; Many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are welcome to gather at the graveside service held on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 1:00pm at the Prospect Cemetery, 501 Prospect Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301. The graveside prayer service will be led by Pastor Bob of the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church. Cremation has been entrusted to The Lanterman and Allen Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pocono Mountain Garden Railway Society.
