Alvis William “Bill” Grigsby was the son of Steven and Reta Grigsby of Davenport, OK. He was born Sept. 24, 1925 and went to be with the Lord on Tues., Nov. 27, 2012 at OK Heart Hospital. Bill graduated from Davenport high school, joined the US Navy and served 4 years during WWII. Bill married Mary Mitchell in 1947 and continued his education at UCO in Edmond, and OU in Norman. Bill was a jr. and senior high school teacher and “coach” in Clinton, Wynnewood, and Blackwell, OK and taught in Rockville, MD until retiring. He and his family returned to Edmond in 1990. Bill served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Edmond and pres. of the resident council at Quail Ridge Assist. Living, where he resided until his death. Bill is survived by his daughter, Maurita Kate Payne and husband, Rex of Guthrie; son, Steven Grigsby of Edmond; grandchildren, Thomas Payne and wife Joanie of Moore, OK, Krista Brash and husband Paul and Tiffany Grigsby and fiancé’ Chris Carrol of Edmond; great grandchildren, Logan Payne, Hunter and Dakota Brash, Avery Payne, Riley and Presley Brash; brother, Richard Grigsby and wife Patricia of Moore; sister, Martha Hale and husband Curtis of Edmond; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews; his 2nd wife, Bernice “Lucy” Grigsby of OKC, and a host of close friends. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary Mitchell Grigsby and his parents. A formal visitation will be Friday, Nov. 30 from 7-9pm at Baggerley Funeral Home. Services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, Dec. 1 at First Baptist Church of Edmond with Pastor Jerry Miller presiding and interment following at Memorial Park Cemetery. “Great, you will be missed.”
