Betty Catherine Casey was born on January 27, 1934, in Edmond, Oklahoma, as the first child of Robert Lee (Bob) and Catherine Marshall Thompson. She grew up in Edmond and went to elementary school there. She would later welcome two younger brothers to the family, William Lee (Bill) and Robert Marshall (Mark). The family moved to Stillwater, OK where Betty attended and later graduated from Stillwater High School. It was there that she met Charles Kenneth Casey and they were married in 1955.
While attending high school Betty was a majorette and participated in her church’s youth group. Betty also worked in her mother’s restaurant, “The Chicken House” on Main Street in Stillwater. Following high school she majored in hotel and restaurant management at Oklahoma State University. These two experiences carried through life providing joy in preparing great meals for family and friends and cheering on the OSU Cowboys.
Casey and Betty welcomed their oldest daughter, Catherine Kay, in 1958, and shortly afterwards moved to Oklahoma City. Not long after arriving in OKC Betty began working for the State Senate of Oklahoma. In November of 1959 Casey and Betty welcomed their second daughter, Nancy Lynn, and two years later their youngest child, William Scott.
Betty continued working for the State of Oklahoma primarily in the State Senate with time also spent with the Election Board and Legislative Council. She retired in 2010 with the most longevity the State of Oklahoma gives as the Bill Status Coordinator in the State Senate of Oklahoma. During this long and dedicated career Betty worked for the citizens of Oklahoma helping to ensure an orderly and efficient process for legislative action.
In retirement Betty continued her joy of entertaining and sports, especially the OSU Cowboys football. Betty enjoyed traveling with work or for pleasure. One of her favorite locations was wherever her grandchildren were. She was a beloved Gran and made every effort to attend the big events in their lives.
