Betty was born and raised in Kingfisher, OK. She attended Park College, Missouri for one year. She then attended Oklahoma A&M, ultimately earning her nursing degree from OU School of Nursing. It was during her time at Oklahoma A&M where she met the love of her life, Charlie Crews, in a dance band where he played the trumpet and she was the vocalist. They were married in Kingfisher upon her graduation and recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. She and Charlie had three children: son, Kyle, and twin daughters, Kim and Pam. Betty was their biggest cheerleader and an avid sports fan.
Betty was known for her tender heart, kindness, beautiful voice, and joy in serving others springing from her love of Christ. This joy in service was lived out in many ways, including through her career in nursing. She especially loved working with little ones, and through the family’s many moves over the years, was often known as the neighborhood nurse. Betty and Charlie have been a part of Our Lord’s Community Church for 39 years, serving for over 25 years as hosts of Community Group Bible Studies in their home. Betty was blessed with a precious husband who selflessly cared for her with his whole heart and soul.
Betty is survived by: her husband, Charlie; her sister, Lillian Stewart of Oklahoma City; her twin daughters and their spouses, Kim and Steve Lewis and Pam and John McDougal of Edmond; as well as six grandchildren and their spouses- Michelle and Jonathan Gray of Porter, TX, Shannon McDougal and Brent Woodcox of Raleigh, NC, Kristin and Josh Desmond of San Diego, CA, Paul and Sara Lewis of Edmond, Ryan and Alex McDougal of Edmond, and Amy Lewis of San Rafael, CA; and five great grand-children, Brayden, Karis, and Kasen Gray, and Maddox and Skylar Desmond. She was preceded in death by her sister, Hazel Johnson, and her son, Kyle Crews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Betty’s honor to Water4 (www.water4.org) or Our Lord’s Community Church. A celebration of life service will be held Friday, November 10th at 2 PM at Our Lord’s Community Church, 11400 N Portland Avenue, Oklahoma City.
