Elizabeth “Betty” Armstrong Rasmussen, age 91, passed away on October 29, 2026, at OU Health-Edmond Medical Center in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was born in Lawrence, Kansas, on October 2, 1935, to the late Cecil and Marie Armstrong.
Betty graduated from Warsaw Community High School in Indiana, earned degrees from Miami University of Ohio and the University of Wisconsin, and later completed her PhD in Psychology at the University of Oklahoma. She dedicated decades to helping others as a clinical psychologist in private practice in Oklahoma City.
In her early years, Betty developed her adventurous spirit, earning her private pilot’s license, summitting Longs Peak, and cycling across Europe. Later in life, she became a founding member of Channing Unitarian Universalist Church in Edmond, where she remained actively involved for over 40 years. Affectionately remembered as the “First Lady of Channing,” her wisdom, insight, and quiet generosity enriched the lives of all who knew her. Outside of her professional and community work, Betty found joy in classical music, reading, needlework, travel, watching wildlife, the Colorado mountains, tracing family genealogy, and participating in civic causes.
Betty married Paul George Rasmussen in June 1958; he preceded her in death in 2007.
She is lovingly remembered by her two children: daughter Janet Rasmussen and husband Philip Thornton of Bloomington, Illinois; and son Eric Rasmussen and partner Karen Boyle (and her children, Patrick and Bernadette) of Deltona, Florida. She is also survived by her niece Danielle Armstrong, husband Nick Chronis, and their son Blake; and her nephew Chris Armstrong, the children of her late brother, Robert Armstrong.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Channing Unitarian Universalist Church, 324 NW 164th Street, Edmond, OK.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Channing Unitarian Universalist Church, the Rocky Mountain Conservancy, or a charity of one’s choice.
