Bobbie Sue Joyner

Bobbie (Bowman) Joyner, age 86, passed away on September 17 in the OU Edmond Hospital. Bobbie was under care for colon cancer, leukemia and dementia. Bobbie was survived by husband Jim Joyner, daughter Tamara Joyner, son James Joyner II, and daughter Beth Ann Joyner….and three grandchildren…Shannon, Cooper and Tre. Jim and Bobbie started dating when they were 15 years old. Bobbie graduated from Northeast High in 1957 and attended Oklahoma State and became a member of Alpha Chi Omega. Jim and Bobbie were married in 1958. Bobbie worked to put Jim through two years of college. Jim was commissioned in the Army in 1962 and Bobbie became the consummate “Army Wife” for the next 24 years. When Jim was sent to Vietnam in 1965-66 and again in1968-69, Bobbie attended Central State College as a full time student with two children. In between tours in Vietnam, Jim and Bobbie served in Germany in 1966-67. Over the years, Bobbie created homes in NCarolina, Alabama, Oklahoma, Minnesota.

Georgia, Colorado, California and Washington….while raising three beautiful children. Bobbie sparkled as secretary. She was an executive assistant for multiple firms such as CONOCO, Digital, Technicolor and Eaton. After the couple retired from the Army in 1985, Jim worked in aerospace aviation in Los Angeles, Seattle and Albuquerque. Bobbie continued her career with corporate civil and military programs until 1998.

Jim and Bobbie returned to Oklahoma in 2021 and settled in Edmond close to Bobbie’s identical twin sister, Billie Whitely, who joined Bobbie’s brave battle against cancer…job#1. Jim and Bobbie were married for 67 years and have been blessed by family, friends, and medical care givers.

A visitation for Bobbie will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 South Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034. A graveside service will occur Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 11:30 AM at Gracelawn Cemetery, 1407 N. Boulevard, Edmond, OK 73034. A Celebration of Life will occur Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 12:30 PM at Baggerley Funeral Home.
