Catherine Ann Butler Pendley (July 17, 1944-January 20, 2025) was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She passed away after a long illness, surrounded by her children. We know she was greeted warmly by her Savior Jesus Christ, joining the love of her life, David. Memories of their life together comforted her as she hoped they would have new adventures together in the afterlife.
Catherine is survived by her children, Happy David Pendley (DIL Suzie), Joy Leigh Pendley (SIL Mark Griffin) and Noel Butler Pendley (DIL Jenn) and 16 grandchildren and grandchildren-in-law (Sarah (Will), Chris, Brooke, Willa (Erik), Austin (Brittany), Ansel (Ella), El, Kalvin, Jonah, Micah, and Abigail), and her adored nephews (Tab, Stephen and Marcus Butler). She was thrilled that she met her first great grandchild, Levi Chambers (mom Sarah). She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, David Harold Pendley, her parents, Virgil and Ruby Butler, her brother, Virgil Butler Jr. and her beloved grandchild, Caleb Pendley. She talked often about how lucky she was to have a loving family.
Catherine was a professional artist and many will remember her work showcased at her gallery, The Angel House in Edmond, OK. She completed her Fine Arts degree from Marian College in Indianapolis and became active in the east coast art market, winning awards in shows from Miami to Washington D.C. She was recognized across the nation as a watercolorist and ventured into Intaglio etchings and printmaking in her last years of work. She was inspired by natural beauty, her travels around the world and her love of gardening. She retired from art to spend time with her grandchildren, volunteer for Whiz Kids and to become a Master Gardener. She felt so fortunate to have groups of loving friends, from her gardening clubs, bible study groups and coffee club. She was zooming way before the rest of us as she joined friends online. She also maintained relationships with NW Classen Highschool friends, friends from the five states she lived in and enjoyed traveling to new places with friends. She loved to talk with people and learn about their lives, worrying and praying for them all and celebrating their joys.
Catherine talked about what was important to her over the last year and she wanted us to know that love is the most important thing in life. She will be remembered as someone that taught us to see beauty in the world and to be thankful for the love all around us.
Services are January 27, 10 am at the First Methodist Church (Edmond). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Catherine's memory to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 5601 NW 72nd St, Suite 124, Oklahoma City, OK 73132 or at www.mda.org/office/oklahoma.
