David Wayne Kirkwood was born on January 13, 1959, in Sacramento, California, to the late Roy Alfred Kirkwood and Thelma Deloris Kirkwood (Coppin). He grew up alongside his siblings, Pam and Phillip. David was a loving husband to Tammy Elaine Kirkwood, a devoted father to his two children, Brian Kirkwood (TJ Bland) and Rachel Fenton (Tim Fenton), and a loving papa to his two grandchildren, Camden and Cadence.
Throughout David’s childhood and adolescence, he was active in the local Boy Scouts, an organization whose skills and values he carried throughout his life and was honored in 1974 with the Eagle Award. David graduated from Grant Union High School in 1977 and went on to earn his Associates of Applied Science degree in Microsoft Systems Engineering in 1997. During his career he served as a firefighter, a real estate appraiser, and a computer systems engineer. He found great purpose and joy in helping and serving others.
Outside his career, David was an avid hunter, DIYer, and state park and nature enthusiast. He had a devout love for nature and often found solace in spending time outdoors, surrounded by the beauty of the natural world.
David’s legacy is one of loyalty, discernment, and love and he will be missed by his family and friends.
