David was born on September 27, 1941 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Lorena and Raymond Padgett.
From a young age he showed a passion in the great outdoors, which continued through his life and passed on to his boys.
Attended the Putnam City elementary school through the 11th grade and then their class transferred to the new Putnam City high school on 50th, they were the first graduating class in 1959. That year, his passion grew even stronger for track and field.
After graduating, he went to Oklahoma University, where he met Kay Harden. They were married and had two sons.
In 1976 David met Jonalyn(the love of his life)through Little League football. On August 18th 1978. They began their life together with three boys names by age, John Kannard, David Jr., and Jason.
Those who knew David will remember his deep love for nature and adventure, and his love for God. He was an avid outdoor man – he found his peace in the mountains, whether he was camping, skiing, hiking or casting a fly rod into a cold stream. He always would tell you that’s where he felt closest to God.
He passed that love to his family. He coached his sons in multiple sports, especially baseball and football, but more than that instilled in them, the lasting love for the outdoors. (hunting, fishing and exploring the wilderness).
In 1990 David and Jonalyn moved to Colorado Springs,CO.
to embrace mountain life. For 16 years, they enjoyed everything the Rockies had to offer camping,fishing, hiking and skiing.
David served as a volunteer certified ski patrol at Ski Cooper for 13 years, 4 of those years he served as the patrol director. His commitment to safety and leadership on the slopes was a true reflection of his character and integrity.
He worked as a property manager and eventually became a general contractor until that company moved to Denver. He started working for a Home builder and worked his way up to the office from the ground floor. Within his spare time, he began painting to express his self in nature.
When he andJonalyn moved back to Oklahoma City in 2006 he started doing his artwork full-time. he did art shows, Edmond art Festival, sold to many individuals. Some of you may have his works.
David Padgett was a man who lived live fully~~ he found joy in the journey, strength in the outdoors and God,purpose in guiding and caring for others. His love lives on in the mountain roamed, in the family he raised and in the stories we carry forward.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Lorena and Raymond Padgett, and his cherished granddaughterJulianna “Jay” Kannard.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Jonalyn Padgett,John and Donna Kannard of Edmond, OK., David Padgett Jr. of Sperry,OK., Jason Padgett & Laurel Kristen Cockrill of Newbury,MA., 13 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
