Dr. Edwin William Crooks, 92, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 15, 2011. Dr. Crooks was born on July 29, 1919, to Rebecca Dils Crooks and Edwin William Crooks, in Parkersburg, West Virginia. After serving in the Navy during WWII, he married Joan Schleuniger, his wife of 59 years. Ed and Joan resided in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and raised their three children there. Dr. Crooks was the Chancellor of Indiana University Southeast and a tireless community leader. In 2010, the Crooks moved to Edmond, Oklahoma.
Dr. Crooks is survived by his wife, Joan Crooks of Edmond, Oklahoma; and his children, Edwin William Crooks III of Great Falls, Virginia; Ann Crooks Corcoran of Boerne, Texas; and Alice Crooks Hager of Edmond, Oklahoma; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be held on December 17, 2011, at Wall Street United Methodist Church in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Gifts of remembrance may be made to the Jeffersonville, Indiana Township Public Library, or Indiana University Southeast.
