Ethel Juliette “Julie” Carroway passed away October 26, 2020 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born March 20, 1939 in Frederick, MD; the only child to parents Harry Broadus Mundy and Violet Marie Snider Mundy. Her mother remarried and had a son, William “Billy” Joseph Thompson, Julie’s little brother.
Julie was a 1957 graduate of Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA. After high school, she worked for the Federal Highway Administration where she was set up on a blind date with William Preston “Buck” Carroway, a young Federal Highway Administration engineer, whom she married on April 28, 1962. She received a Bachelor of Science degree and graduated from the nursing school of Oklahoma State University and became a registered nurse which was her career for decades. She continued to volunteer at Mercy Hospital even after retiring. She enjoyed traveling with her family, volunteering, reading, cooking and spending time with her friends.
Julie was a devoted member of Quail Springs Baptist Church since 1972, was a member of the choir there and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Julie is preceded in death by her husband, Buck Carroway; daughter, Kathleen Marie Carroway; and sibling, Billy Thompson.
She is survived by children: William Preston Carroway, Jr. and wife Jennifer Deanna Carroway, David Alan Carroway and wife Angela Jan Carroway, and Joy Elizabeth Cross and husband Earl Edmund Cross; grandchildren: Taelor Alexis Nance, William Preston Carroway III, Katherine Elizabeth Carroway, Nicholas Alan Carroway, Parker Gene Carroway, Zachary Lloyd Cross, Kathleen Marie Cross, Emalee Grace Carroway, William Grayson Carroway and Avery Elise Carroway; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Quail Springs Baptist Church under the direction of Baggerley Funeral Home. Reverend Wade Crews will officiate. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Capital Memorial Gardens in Austin, Texas.
