George Jacob Hall (95) was born in Custer County and saw almost a century of history before passing away at home on Saturday, March 23, 2013. “Red” was born to George and Edith (Betts), March 8, 1918, and raised just north of Wetmore in the family’s old stone house. After marrying the love of his life, Ruby Louise Vickerman, in 1945, they were devoted to the ranches they worked around Colorado until George retired at the J and V Diller Ranch in Deer Trail, Colorado, in 1994. They enjoyed living on the ranch until they relocated to Oklahoma in 2010 to be close to family.
“Red” was fond of his days in Colorado and loved to share stories of times from a horse and buggy and a 100,000 acre ranch to a Mercury Grand Marquis and a couple acres in Oklahoma.
George was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Francis and James; sister Doris Smith; daughter-in-law Leah (Hart) Hall; and beautiful granddaughter Heather Hall. He is survived by his wife Ruby; two sons, Jerry and wife Pam (Arvada, CO) and Tom and wife Karen (Edmond, OK). He leaves an empty place in the hearts of his family and friends in Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas, including his sister Donna and Gene Coleman (Howard, CO); and those who affectionately called him “Grandpa”, grandchildren - Marcus and Dayla Hall (Piedmont, OK), Karen and Jeremy Hayes (Lochbouie, CO), Misty Zink and Weldon Kilpatrick (Weatherford, OK), Monte and Tammy Blatnick (Weatherford, OK), Stacy and Brian Doughty (Pampa, TX), Krystin and Zach Land (Edmond, OK) and Kaleb Hinkel (Edmond, OK); great grandchildren – Sabrina and Kyla Hall (Piedmont, OK); Ryan, Jacob and Sara Hayes (Lochbouie, CO); Amanda Blatnick (Oklahoma City), Justin Blatnick and wife Jordan (US Marines – Twentynine Palms, CA), Ray Blatnick (Weatherford, OK); Kenzee Doughty (Pampa, TX), Ashlyn and Noah Land (Edmond, OK); and great-great granddaughter – Jadalynn Blatnick (Twentynine Palms, CA). Also, there are many nieces and nephews who have lost their very favorite uncle.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Baggerley Funeral Home, Friday, March 29, 2013, at two o’clock, 920 S. Broadway, Edmond, OK. After the Columbines are blooming in Westcliffe, Colorado, an interment will be scheduled at Rosita Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
