Gerri Walsh

Gerri Kay Walsh, 78, of Edmond, OK, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Gerri was born on March 8, 1945, to William Burgett and Leona Lappie in Cody, WY. Her family moved to Hamel, IL, where Gerri grew up and graduated high school. After graduation, she moved to Decatur, IL where she began to work as a nurse. During her time at the hospital working in the ER, she met Kevin Walsh, who was working as an EMT. They started dating and fell in love. Gerri would eventually move to OK, to work at Mercy Hospital. Gerri and Kevin married on August 7, 1977, and they had two sons, Brendan and Conor. They raised their boys in the Edmond community, following every sporting event possible.

She was very welcoming and always wanted to serve others and spend time with family and friends. Gerri was a very dedicated nurse and loved to serve others. A few of her hobbies included playing solitaire, word finds, watching baseball and Notre Dame football games, watching her sons play sports, pro golf, and was a huge sports enthusiast. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, as she enjoyed decorating the house, making her famous relish tray and cheeseball on top of her table scape.

Gerri absolutely adored being Nana to her three grandchildren and loved spending every second with them. She was very involved in their lives, making sure they knew how much Nana loved them. Gerri continued to serve others in the community after retiring as a nurse, working at Andrew Johnson Elementary School in Oklahoma City. She really loved working with special needs children in the school, especially handing out candy canes around Christmas. Gerri was a wonderful selfless woman that will be missed by her family and friends dearly.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Kevin Walsh; sons: Brendan Walsh and wife Megan and their son Callan, Conor Walsh and wife Kelli and their daughters, Nellie and Ruby; sister, Loretta Koch and numerous extended family members and friends. Gerri is preceded in death by her parents, William Burgett and Leona Halbe; sister, Joice Tweedy and brother-in-law, Ross Koch.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Gerri will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Baggerley Funeral Home Chapel, 930 S. Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034.
