Gregory Leay Tyler was born on June 8, 1962, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at St. Anthony Hospital to Dalton and Coy Sue (Dallas) Tyler. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 25, 2026, in Derby, Kansas.
Greg attended John Marshall High School in OKC and graduated with top honors. He then attended the United States Air Force Academy, followed by Oklahoma State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Design Technology Engineering. Greg worked as an aircraft engineer for many decades, which included working on the B2 stealth bomber. After departing the aircraft industry, he spent time in renewable energy and insurance.
Greg was the loving husband of Shawn Tyler for forty years of marriage. In their early years together, they enjoyed sailing, and later, sunset drives and 4x4 adventuring in the Jeep that he spent time modifying. He was also a devoted father who was greatly involved in his kids activities which included coaching their athletics and traveling with Shawn to visit their grandchildren.
Greg was a skilled jack-of-all-trades. Many of his friends and neighbors were blessed to receive assistance from his knowledge and know-how. He had many hobbies such as playing guitar and piano, camping, biking, and painting, to name a few.
He will be remembered for his strength, courage, passion for intellectual growth, and devotion to his faith. Greg gave his life to Christ at the age of 9, was baptized at Highland Hills Baptist Church, and grew up in Village Baptist Church. He knew his Lord and Savior well and was a faithful follower.
Greg is survived by his wife Shawn, of Derby, Kansas, children Preston (Holly) Tyler of Chicago, Illinois, Jessica (Douglas) Giroux of Howell, Michigan, grandchildren Harrison Tyler and Ilina Giroux, Parents Dalton and Coy Sue (Dallas) Tyler of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, brother Kent (Polly) Tyler of Birmingham, Alabama, four nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Inez and Coy O’Dell Dallas, and Madalyn Mae and Nolan Tyler.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on April 30, 2026, at Village Bible Church, 10600 N May Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73120, US.
A Committal Service will be held at 3:15 pm on April 30, 2026, at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery, 7500 W Britton Rd, Oklahoma City, OK 73132, US.
