Jerry L. Durrin, Col., 86, retired Chief Engineer with the US Army Corps of Engineers and retired Colonel with the US Army Reserves passed away peacefully at his home in OKC on March 16, 2012. Jerry was born Oct 26, 1925 in Winfield, KS to Robert and Monte Durrin. He moved to OKC when he was 15 graduating from Central HS in 1943. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the pacific obtaining the rank of sergeant. In 1946 he married Betty McMillan Durrin and began working on his BS Degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1950.While at OU he attended Army ROTC receiving his commission as a 2nd LT. in 1948. He served in the Army Reserves as an artillery officer for 30 years, retiring in 1978 as a Colonel. As a civilian, Jerry worked in various engineering positions in OKC from 1950-1958. He began his career in 1958 with the Corps of Engineers in Tulsa until 1966. He worked for the Corps in Louisville, KY from 1966-1972, Charleston, SC from 1972-1981, and Little Rock, AR from 1981 until his retirement as a Chief Engineer in 1996. In 1998 he and Betty moved back to OKC. They were members of Memorial Road Church of Christ in Edmond. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Monte, his brother Robert Jr. and his oldest son Jerry Lee Jr. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty, his son Robert and wife Marisa of OKC, his son Marc of OKC, his grandsons Tyler, a student at OU, Matt and wife Karrah, Missoula, MT, Holly Moe and husband Brian, Missoula, MT, Jason and wife Jessica, Mt Pleasant, TX, Jarryd and wife Ashley, McKinney, TX and Justin of OKC, and a nephew Robert Ryan and wife Ann of Cleveland, OH. Services entrusted to the care of Baggerley Funeral Home of Edmond, Oklahoma.
