Growing up in Indianapolis, Indiana, John graduated from Howe High School with the Class of 1968. Standing at the height of the Vietnam War, he felt a profound call to duty and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps immediately after graduation. Upon returning home, John continued his life of service in law enforcement. Residing in Lafayette, Indiana, he served as a dedicated Trooper with the Indiana State Police, where he was a proud member of the specialized Camaro enforcement unit. His commitment to global peace and justice later led him to join DynCorp, serving on international peacekeeping tours in Kosovo and East Timor, as well as deploying to Iraq to assist with vital civilian police duties.
In 2001, John relocated to Oklahoma, where he embraced new passions alongside his lifelong ones. He was a man of diverse talents who found success in everything he touched. An avid runner, John also thrived in the rodeo arena as a skilled team roper and spent quiet hours in his shop as a talented, attentive woodworker.
Above all his achievements, John was a wonderful, honorable, and fiercely loving husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves behind a legacy of strength and warmth that will be forever cherished by his family.
John is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Rita Hubbard; his three daughters and their families: Angela Brown and her husband Darius, and their children Zach, Hannah, and Grace, Alisha McElhaney and her husband Chris, and their children Jake and Alivia, and Tabitha Gullett and her children James and Aulbrey.
