He graduated from Bartlesville High School in 1962 and went on to attend a semester at OSU before returning to Bartlesville to work at TRW Reda Pump. In April of 1964, John married the love of his life, Carolyn Jean Danel, and together they shared 54 years of love. John was honorably discharged from the United States Army in December 1971 and he and Carol move to Edmond in March of 1978. John worked for various oil companies, including: Cities Service (Tulsa); Clinton Oil Co. (Wichita, KS); LVO & Reading & Bates Oil Co. (Tulsa); Mahaffey Energy Inc. (OKC) in 1996; retiring from Linn Energy in 2015; and working part-time after his retirement with Superior Title Services. John was a member of the American Associated of Petroleum Landman and the Oklahoma City Association of Petroleum Landman. He was awarded a Certificate of Charter Membership to the National Association of Division Order Analysts in 1983. John was a positive influence on so many people, both personally and professionally.
He is preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Loraine; and sister Marilyn Parsons.
John is survived by his wife Carol; daughter Kelly Horton (Dave); son Scott, all of Edmond; sisters, Bonnie Brown (Bob) of Shawnee, KS and Sheryl Jones-Sroufe (Jack) of Bartlesville; the pride of his life – his grandchildren, Baxlee and Ian Horton, Asher and Sophie Mahaffey; brother-in-law Frankie Danel (Pam) of Bartlesville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Baggerley Funeral Home (Edmond).
