Karin Mears, 65, passed away January 25, 2014 at her home in Edmond, OK with her family by her side. She was born to Willi and Annaliese Schumacher, May 23rd, 1948, in Parchim, Germany. Karin began her life in Soviet occupied East Germany and escaped to the west with her family under circumstances more appropriate to a spy novel than to a girl’s childhood. As a young woman she worked as a secretary for German National Insurance in Heidelberg, Germany where, as fate would have it, she met an American soldier on a streetcar. One month and a whirlwind romance later Karin accepted the marriage proposal of Lt. Max Mears, to whom she would be married and love for the rest of her life. The pace of her life was not to slow at all, and in the following years she would become the mother of three sons, a water color artist, an Army thrift shop manager, a volunteer for both the Red Cross and the Army Wives Club, an international accounts manager for Brasseler USA and a traveler to 20 countries throughout the world. Known for her beauty, loyalty, gracious charm and occasionally disarming bluntness, Karin never failed to make a strong impression on the people she met, and is loved and respected by her many devoted friends far and wide. To her family she was a towering example of strength, character, perserverance, unwavering support, love and Christian values. In her final years Karin’s greatest joy was found in being a Grandmother; a role she shone as brightly in as all the others. Karin Mears’ was a life well lived and one we were all fortunate to be a part of. Karin is preceded in death by her son Marcus and her father Willi. She is survivied by her husband Max Mears, the families of her sons David and Scott Mears, her mother Annaliese Schumacher and the family of her sister Sybille Tuck. A viewing and visitation for family and friends will be 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Baggerley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, January 31, 2014 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Barrie Henke will officiate. Interment will be in Gracelawn Cemetery. Services are under direction Baggerley Funeral Home.
