

A child of the great depression, he was born on October 20, 1931, in Newark New Jersey, the son of George Ely Barton and wife Helen Viola Yogg.
Lester lost his mother at age nine. Around the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. By 1950, he was stationed at Tinker AFB. He met and married Rosa M. Brown. From that union, he had two sons, Michael G. Barton and later David P. Barton.
Lester Barton’s travels while serving in the USAF would take him from Thule Greenland to the Philippine’s and Vietnam. He was stationed in Vietnam at NHA Trang AFB when the TET offensive broke out and the Air Force base was under attack by the communists with a mortar barrage.
Among the various decorations received by Lester Barton was the Bronze Star.
Lester Barton was a long-time resident of Edmond, Oklahoma. He was a life member of Edmond VFW Post 4938, a former member of the ELK 2578, a former member of the Sons of The American Revolution, and a member of American Legion.
Lester Barton was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rosa, his son David Paul Barton, his brothers George M. Barton, and Edward R. Barton Sr, and his sisters Veronica Springer and Rita Wright.
Lester is survived by his son, Michael G. Barton and numerous nieces and nephews from New Jersey and Oklahoma.
Visitation will be held at Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 South Broadway, Edmond, OK 73034, on June 5, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A graveside service will take place at Gracelawn Cemetery, 1407 N. Blvd, Edmond, OK 73034, on June 6, 2026, at 10:00 am.
