Mary Lee Miller

Mary was born the 23rd of May 1928 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. She was always there for her family, as a devoted wife and a loving mother, sister, aunt, great aunt and great-great aunt. Her parents, Anastasio and Myrtle Bays, as well as her only child, Donald Pallard, and second husband, Lamon Miller, preceded her in death.

Yet Mary lived life in full. She was a strong willed woman, determined to do everything she could to help and support the people she loved, no matter if they lived good, bad or simply “nothing special” kinds of days.

Mary worked as a hospital dietitian in Tulsa and assistant cook for Edmond public schools. But most of all, she was manager and bookkeeper for the truck company she owned with her first husband, Ray Pallard. The press praised her for having been a pioneer: one the very first professional American women truck drivers and a better driver altogether than many of her male counterparts.

People who knew her remember how passionately Mary loved nature and animals. Animals of all kinds and shapes: small and big, wild and tamed, pretty and ugly. She regularly took her dog Sadie for walks at Lake Arcadia and on doggy social outings at the Edmond Dog Park, where Mary met many of her latest friends. And there is no denying that she had the greatest sense of humor! That she was very proud of her tomato plants, loved her crossword puzzles, and enjoyed watching Christian TV programs.

Our beloved Mary is survived by her sister, Lois Henderson and her husband, Ed; her nieces, Rebecca Nichols ad Donna Leister, along with Donna’s husband, Kevin; her nephew, Robert Lewis; her great niece, Erica Lang and her husband, Michael Emery; a good number of great-great nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Sadie.

Mary’s family and friends thank the Lord for making her last days peaceful and filled with love. She will always be in their hearts.

Visitation is on Friday, January 24, at the Baggerley Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 25, at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Edmond.
