Maury was born on April 14, 1937, in El Paso, Texas, to Harry and Anne Gollob. The family later moved to Los Angeles, where Maury graduated from Fairfax High School and attended the University of Los Angeles, Berkeley. After transferring to the University of Utah, Maury met his college sweetheart, Susan Kay Worthen, while earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Psychology. In 1966, Maury and Susan married in Elko, Nev., and made their first home in Price, Utah.
Maury’s career began with Job Corps in Utah, while serving in a medical unit of the U.S. Army Reserve. He and Susan later moved to Oklahoma, where he earned a Master of Public Health degree, then a PhD in Human Ecology from the University of Oklahoma. He and his family lived many years in Guthrie while he worked for the State of Oklahoma, providing therapy and counseling for troubled youths in the juvenile justice system.
Maury was a generous and devoted husband, father and grandfather, always offering a corny joke or pun to amuse friends and family. His retirement years were filled with photography, birdwatching, and spoiling his grandsons and pets.
Maury was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Gollob; and sister, Joan Cohan, all of Los Angeles. He is survived by his wife, Susan, of Guthrie; son, Shawn Gollob, and wife, Beth Gollob, of Edmond; and two grandsons.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Baggerley Funeral Home, 930 S Broadway, in Edmond.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helping Community Paws and Claws, Inc. in Guthrie. The family would like to thank Oklahoma Heart Hospital and the skilled nursing unit at Epworth Villa in Oklahoma City for the loving care they showed Maury in his final days.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.baggerley.com for the Gollob family.
