Philip was an avid OU football fan; and you knew it on game day because you could hear him cheering from a mile away when they scored a touchdown! Even when people would just be discussing OU football, he’d shout out a boisterous BOOMER SOONER!
Philip loved spending time at Lake Eufaula with family and fishing from the boat, especially with his Grandma Naomi. He loved family game night, probably because he was almost always the winner, but mostly because he loved spending time with family having the most fun he could have. He was also a big tease, especially at work at Tinker Air Force Base. He was employed there for over 25 years as a sheet metal mechanic.
He loved getting a kick out of teasing the nurses the last few years at the times he was hospitalized.
Last week on Friday, the 7th, when he was being admitted, he only had on a pair of sweats and he was freezing cold. The nurse brought over 2 heated blankets and Jo asked her if they could give him a gown to cover his shoulders and she brought one. Philip said, “I don’t want that one, I want the pink one with the unicorns on it!” and she laughed. That was Philip, always trying to liven things up. He and his big voice and laugh will be missed.
Every Sunday, you could catch him watching Joel Osteen. Mom said he wouldn’t miss it and he was a believer in our Lord and Savior.
We are sad to see him go, but happy there is no more pain, no more stress, no more hard things of this life. We all know his Grandma Naomi and dad, Ray, helped usher Him into the Arms of Jesus, and for that gift of salvation, we are truly grateful.
Philip was preceded in death by his father, Jess Coulter; half-brother, Jess Lee the third; dad, Ray Chenoweth; and his beloved grandmother, Naomi Raper.
