

Phillip graduated from Luther High School and Oklahoma A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Geology. He served his country in the US Army and was deployed to Korea during the Korean Conflict. His entire working career was spent in the oil industry as an Offshore Engineer. Phillip was most proud of his participation on the design projects of the World’s second largest offshore platform and the Alaskan pipeline. This work gave him the opportunity to literally see the world. Hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, traveling and a passion for OSU sports, especially baseball. Phillip served as an Elder of the Hydro, Oklahoma Church of Christ.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim Root. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen Christina (Fesler) Root; their children: David Root and wife Marsha of Canute, OK, Jan Becker and husband Mike of Montgomery, TX, Harold Root and wife Lisa of Eakly, OK and adopted daughter Helen Camron and husband Sam of Colorado Springs, Co. He is also survived by his sister Rowena Root of Santa Fe, NM and brother Ken Root of Dyersville, IA. Phillip was adored by his 8 grandchildren: Tracy Beutler, Daniel Lucus, Gregory Root, Britini Root, Devon Becker, Whitini Root, Michael Becker, and Meredith Becker; 8 great-grandchildren and numerous close relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Baggerley Funeral Home, Edmond, OK on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with burial following at the Luther Oklahoma Cemetery.
