

It is with deep love and somber hearts that we announce the passing of Reverend Raymond Eugene Griffin, father of three and a faithful example to all who knew him. Ray was born in August of 1935 at his grandparents’ home in Wyandotte, Oklahoma. He attended Vian High School, Oklahoma City University, Perkins School of Theology, and the University of Oklahoma.
Ray served as local pastor in several Methodist churches before joining the Chaplain Corps of the United States Army. He was stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He served overseas tours in South Korea and Vietnam.
After leaving the service he returned to ministry in the United Methodist Church while also serving as a teacher in the Lawton Public School system specializing in reading proficiency programs. He retired from teaching, but for several years he continued to serve as pastor of churches in the Muskogee, Oklahoma area.
While completing his senior year at Oklahoma City University he met a young coed named Nancy Sutherland. They were soon married, and had three children: George, Chuck, and Sandy Griffin. They have five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents Helen and Gardner Griffin, his wife Nancy Griffin, his brothers Lee and Gerald Griffin, his son Chuck Griffin, and grandson Braxton Griffin. Raymond passed away during the waning hours of May 25, 2026. Memorial Day. He will not be forgotten.
Celebration of life service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2026 at Edmond First United Methodist Church, 305 E Hurd St. Edmond, Oklahoma. Flowers may be sent to Baggerley Funeral Home 930 S Broadway in Edmond zip 73034. There will be a visitation at Baggerley on Sunday June 14 at 4:00 pm through 8:00 pm. Interment will be at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery in Muskogee County, Oklahoma. Procession will depart after the service.
