Ronald Leven Fields

Ron grew up in Oklahoma City and attended U.S. Grant High School. He earned his GED, attended Oklahoma State University, and received an associate degree from Oklahoma City Community College. He was drafted into the United States Army and served at Fort Hood, Texas.

He began working for The Daily Oklahoman when he was just 11 years old, throwing newspapers as a boy. At 16, he joined the pressroom and became a pressman, a career he continued until retiring at age 59.

He was generous with his time. If someone needed help, Ron showed up, even when he had plenty of his own things to do. Sometimes he showed up with tools. Sometimes with advice. Almost always, he showed up with a joke.

Ron never met much of a stranger. It was hard to go anywhere with him without running into someone he knew. He loved giving people a hard time, and he was just as happy when they gave it right back. He had friends everywhere.

He also had his own tastes and interests. He loved black licorice and gizzards. He had cows, pigs, chickens, and horses at different times. He collected cars, motorcycles, boats, tools, and more than a few unfinished projects. But for all the things Ron collected, his greatest treasure was never his stuff.

It was his people.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Russell Fields; his first wife, Carrol; and his longtime partner of more than 25 years, Diana Baldwin.

He is survived by his son, Ronnie Fields and wife Shana; his “number one” grandson, Max Fields; his brothers, Steve Fields (and wife Lilian) and Gary Fields; his sister, Teresa; numerous nieces and nephews; and a wide circle of friends who knew him as generous, funny, hardworking, loyal, and always ready to help.

Ron had been a member of First Christian Church since 1986, though through the years he could often be found worshiping wherever his son was serving in ministry.

A memorial service celebrating Ron’s life will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Church in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial gifts to the OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center or to the youth ministry of First Christian Church in Guthrie.
