Ruth Cain Ross died peacefully January 13, 2013 at the age of 95. She was born August 15, 1917 in Gainesville Texas. She moved to Shawnee Oklahoma in 1918 to live with her loving, adoptive parents, Elanzo and Catherine Boatman. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1934 and moved to Oklahoma City. It was there she met Howard Cain and they were married in March 1936. They were married for 58 years, until his death in 1994. She later married Donald Ross, a lifetime friend. Ruth’s long, productive life included many years of employment that began at Oklahoma Retail Merchants Association. After a brief sabbatical to be a stay at home Mom, she returned to work as credit manager for Katherine Lipe’s children’s store and then as a caseworker for Oklahoma Department of Human Services. She retired in 1987. Ruth was an active volunteer for 15 years at Wilshire Nursing Home and her church, Britton Christian, where she had been a member since 1946. She taught children and adult Sunday school classes and was involved with Christian Women’s Fellowship. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Elanzo and Catherine Boatman, her Husbands Howard Cain and Donald Ross, a sister, Francis Montgomery, and two daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Beryl Matlock and Betty and Bob Buck. She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Beverly and Tim Reardon, Billie and Dale Everett and Brenda and Jack Lee. Three stepdaughters and their husbands, Donna and Jim DeYoung, Marilyn and Dave Hendrickson and Kathy and Marvin Staggs. And a stepbrother, Joe Boatman. She leaves behind a legacy of love to her 13 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Those of us that have known and loved her will remember her best for her value and love of family, her service to her church and her devotion and steadfast love of God, whom has granted her wish to “take her home”. Ruth Cain Ross’s family wishes to thank the people at Integris Hospice House for their loving care in her final days and the people at Emeritus at The Village, for her care the past 5 years. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday January 19 at Britton Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Oklahoma County or Britton Christian Church.
